Using iSync with the Nokia E62

It's working, after a bit of playing with.

1. Download the iSync Plugin from Mactomster.

2. Copy mactomster.phoneplugin to the /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins directory.

3. Open up the MetaClasses.plist file inside mactomster.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources with the Property List Editor.

4. Scroll down to the entry for com.nokia.E61 and copy (or rename) it to com.nokia.E62. A few small changes need to be made for this to work with the E62.

Identification.com.apple.cgmi+cgmm: Nokia+Nokia E62
Services.0.ServiceProperties.ModelName: E62

6. Open the Bluetooth Preferences Pane in Systems Preferences.

7. Go through the process of setting up a new device. If you need help with this, look in my blog archives for the entry on setting up a Motorola V600 with T-Mobile.

8. Start iSync, go to Devices > Add New Device.

9. Select the E62.

10. Sync

Thanks. Or maybe it's all your fault. You decide. I just decided to buy an E62 and am now syncing my old phone list. Your instructions made it possible, at least without some major hair-pulling. Which, by the way, I can ill afford.

Can someone please help me find the

/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins directory.

I am trying to sync my nokia e62 to my mac. any help would be appreciated.

Wow, thanks a lot, I really appreciate the information on your site!!! Please keep on posting the E62 Cingular stories. Welcome to the left coast!

To the frustrated mac user, just browse to it with Finder.

I got one of these phones just a few days ago and I think it's awesome thus far. My only complaint is that iSync can't handle the "Notes" attached to appointments and just ignores them, at least with the conduit I bought from nova media.

Phone reception is crystal clear, especially compared to my previous phones (Nokia 9300, Qtek 9000, Treo 650, the list goes on and on - hey 'm a phone junkie).

I also like the push email Blackberry-style.

I have MAC version 10.3.9 do I have to update to the latest version in order to find this folder because

/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins directory.

Is not located on my computer and or maybe I can not find it.

Thanks for your help

works great, and i'm computer illiterate. Thanks!

Hi, could you help me with a step by step using the Nokia e62 with isync? Thanks a lot!

Hi, tried the instructions on "Using iSync with the Nokia E62" , but iSync still saying that the device is not supported. Any suggestion, please? Thanks.

Works beautifully. Thanks.

Problem: Still says it's not supported. Can someone send me the plist file? I'm having a hell of a time finding the right code to change... help:)!

this works only with bluetooth and not over a usb connection?

I haven't tried with USB - only bluetooth.

Can someone be kind enough to give me a hand on how to sync my mac (OS 10.4.8) with my Nokia E62.

I already downloaded the mactomster_plugin, but where do I put it.... I haven't found Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins directory

All I find is a folder that says iSync when I type it on the search bar from the finder. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong.....

Thank You very much....
Jerry

so where do i get the property list editor app? i googled it am confused...looks like a dev tool? anyways, i'm trying to help my sis out with her new e62 from cingular and any help will be helpful.

This worked great, thanks!

to get to this directory click anywhere at the desktop, make sure you now have finder running on the first level, choose the tab go and then go to folder. Copy and paste /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns

and there you go

I tried the above steps, but couldn't get it to work.

What does "A few small changes need to be made for this to work with the E62" actually mean?

What changes? I changed every 61 to read 62 and could find the following anywhere in the file:

Identification.com.apple.cgmi+cgmm: Nokia+Nokia E62
Services.0.ServiceProperties.ModelName: E62

And what is a Property List Editor? Text edit?

I know this probaly sounds foolish, but I'm stuck...

Why do you guys post the file already modified in order we download it and copy it to the right folder? This way you'd made us a great favor and painless install. I can not make this phone work already. Thanks

Ok I already could do it!! it's great to have already my information in my E62. Thanks a lot FreeBSDGirl. I downloaded the properties list editor in: http://homepage.mac.com/bwebster/plisteditpro.html, made the changes and voila!!

I'm not a techie, so it took me about 30 min to figure this out, so I'll try to help answer some of the questions above.

1. When you download mactomaster.info, simply drag the file to the folder that's in German ("Datei hier draut ziehsen"). Don't worry about finding it later. just drag it there.

2. to edit the file, you need to first download an editor program. I used Plistedit Pro (free trial download)

3. run PlistEdit Pro

4. go the the mactomster_isync-Plugin_2.6 that you downloaded and double click on that. Then keep double clicking through the folders until you reach the "metaclasses.plist" file. Then double click on that and it should open in the PlistEdit Pro application you just downloaded in step #3.

5. Make the needed changes in the top half of the PlistEdit Pro file. You are just changing E61 to E62 in a few spots. That's it. Then save the program.

6. Pair with bluetooth and you are on your way. It truly is straightforward and THANKS MUCH for providing this useful info. I now have my new E62 sync'd with my new MacBook Pro. Now I just have to figure out how to use my phone as a modem since the Macbook doesn't offer 3G.

Okay, I downloaded the editor and changed the spots where it says E61 to E62. when I press the sync button it asks me to add a new device. It searches for the device and it tells me to double-click to add the device. but, when I double click it it shows up on the main menu with a red exclamation mark and I press the sync button but it says no device is activated eventhough my computer is paried with the device. Please Help

Ok I have changed the file name and put it in the right place. I have no clue on where to find the minor changes to make. Where is this done. I feel like a big idiot.

Using the property list editor. If you double click on the file to edit, it should open using the property list editor, then change the values as I specified above.

I think I got about as far as Jeremy (posted Dec 28). Finally see my E62 icon in my iSync window, but it's titled "unknown" with a red exclamation mark. Click on it and following dialogue box opens beneath: "Plug-in for this phone model is missing. Install that phone's plug-in if you want iSync to support it."

Thanks for getting me this far.
I can almost taste it ...

Haven't gotten to know this phone yet. Seems cool ... but that Blackberry "Pearl" is looking better all the time!

Oh ... forgot to mention I'm running 10.4.8 with iSync 2.3. Could that be the problem, perhaps? Thanks again ...

I have the exactly the same problem Jeremy is having: after - hours - i've been asked to double click on the device and then the nasty exclamation point with the UNKNOWN word on the isync tab. it is so frustating! can anyone shed some light?

I'm to the pairing and I am getting the "This device is not supported by iSync" message with a red dot next to a Nokia phone that is not the e62. Any advice. Everything else has been clear up to this step. Thanks.

disregard my previous email today. I figured that part out but am now stuck with Jeremy and Melina.

Ok..i did everything, my bluetooth preferences shows that i can use ISYNC to sync my phone, ISYNC opens up by itself and then again it says, cannot sync this hardware. any advise?

Just bought my E62 after the disappointment of the iPhone. Followed the directions above and had this up and working within 5 mins. Thanks!!

Thanks much for the iSync info, you came up high on Google and happened to be exactly what I was looking for.

Picked up the E62 from the Manhattan Nokia store last night. Wonderful little gadget.

Presently trying to sell the idea to the girl, perhaps she wouldn't mind carrying around such a stylish wedge-like thing.

Rawk.

This worked fine for me folks.

Please follow each step precisely, and ensure that the phone is not connected via USB. If the phone is connected via USB, it will not permit iSync to connect via Bluetooth.

Otherwise it works exactly as she documented above.

- Bill

This works great.

For those who have the Dev tools loaded, the Property List Editor in OS X works great too.

In a terminal window, issue the following commands:
cd /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/mactomster.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources

/Developer/Applications/Utilities/Property\ List\ Editor.app/Contents/MacOS/Property\ List\ Editor MetaClasses.plist

Then expand the tree of values as necessary to make the changes above.

YOU HAVE TO RESTART!!!
i had a big problem and had given up hope, until I restarted. IT WORKED!!! What a relief and now I feel I am back up to speed, like when I had my sony phone...

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW I COULD DO IT STEP BY STEP
PLEASE

PS I HAVE MAC OS 10.4.8

Great instructions!!! iSync worked like a charm with my new E62!! Thanks a TON!!

I can iSync to my new E62 but i can't get the notes to work - has anyone figured that out? This E62 seems very PC like.

As of Mac OS X 10.4.9 isync has built in native support for E61 and E62, Yeah!

hi - the link to the isync plug in at the top of the page isn't active. please redirect me if there's another place. i'm running 10.3.9 and REALLY want to be able to sync my E62.
